Chantel Archer – New York City Transit has teamed up with The Theater Center to bring you a new MetroCard and Easy Pay Xpress Deal!
MetroCard and Easy Pay Xpress customers can save over 30% on admission to two plays at The Theater Center: The Fantasticks and Perfect Crime. Catherine Russell is the General Manager at The Theater Center.

Chantel Archer – So Catherine, what can people expect when they come to see the Fantasticks?

Catherine Russell – They can expect a funny musical comedy. It’s basically a funny Romeo and Juliet. The play has been running since 1960, it’s a small theater 199 seats and so every seat in the theater is a good one. You’re very close to the actors, you can almost touch them. It’s a perfect show for parents to bring their kids to, perhaps as the first show to see on or off Broadway because the size of theatre makes it a very immediate experience for kids as young as three or four. There’s humor, there’s romance and beautiful music. Most people recognize Try to Remember which is a very famous song, played a lot. Our theater is called the Jerry Orbach Theater because Jerry Orbach, the star of Law and Order and Beauty and the Beast and a Broadway star was the original star of the Fantasticks in 1960.

The other show that’s playing here, Perfect Crime, is the longest running play in NYC history. It’s been running almost 30 years. It’s a great show for people who like Law and Order or CSI or Agatha Christi. It’s a whodunit about a woman who maybe killed her and the detective who’s trying to solve the crime but finds himself falling in love with her.

Chantel Archer – When are you open and when do the shows start?

Catherine Russell – Both shows play 6 days a week, Thursday is our day off, we do a show at 8 p.m. on Friday, 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Saturday, 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Sundays, 8 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday and 2 p.m. on Wednesday. Call the box office at 212-921 7862 or go to ticketmaster.com to get your MTA discount for either or both of our shows.

Chantel Archer – What do you hope to get out of this partnership with New York City Transit?

Catherine Russell – We are very excited to partner with New York City Transit because The Theater Center, right on Broadway and 50th St, is close to so many subway and bus lines. Times Square is full of people these days so we always encourage people to leave their cars and use the MTA to come to our shows. I think it’s really important for people to use the subway and bus lines. They’re incredible efficient but i also think it’s ecologically correct for our environment people have to stop taking cars. It makes a lot more sense to get on the subway and we are close to almost every subway line here at 50th St and Broadway.

Chantel Archer – Thanks Catherine. The Theater Center is home to two of off Broadway’s longest running shows, an acting studio and a host of other performances, and happenings and events and getting to the theater is as easy as using your MetroCard.

Take the C or E train to 50th St and the theater is located at 1627 Broadway between Broadway and 8th Ave. on 50th St.
